Virtual Marketplace

Wed 30 November -
Thurs 31 December 2020

For the last Artwalk Wakefield of 2020, we launched our first Virtual Marketplace to help people shop local, buy quality and support creatives during the festive season.

As we all adjusted to the latest national lockdown, we gave 30 artists, makers and creative businesses space to showcase and sell their artwork and products on The Artwalk Virtual Marketplace, which you can still see in full here. The marketplace launched on the Artwalk night on Wednesday 25th November and was open until 31st December 2020.

Artwalk offers Wakefield’s creative community opportunities to exhibit their work, meet, and sell to a growing number of visitors. The November Artwalk saw this vital opportunity to sell return with the Virtual Marketplace. Helping to support our creative community during the difficult year of Covid-19 and national lockdowns, and solving festive buying woes in the process!

Amongst our carefully selected, predominantly local, stallholders you could find stunning unique items to treat yourself to, or to gift to your loved ones even while the shops were shut. From original works of art to handmade jewellery, festive baubles to t-shirts, there really was something for everyone.

"I really liked how it focused on supporting locally based small businesses in particular, and how a unique support network came about amongst the sellers involved, such as promoting each others practices"

"My sales were hugely down this season, but I am grateful for the sales I had and for opportunities like this. I am sure that the impetus which the Artwalk gave me to be more active on social media myself, encouraged people, who already followed or knew me, to buy from me online this year."

"It was a brilliant virtual event to be a part of to reach new customers, and I even got to do some of my Christmas shopping on the virtual marketplace as well!".
