Mohammad Barrangi is a UK-based illustrator, printmaker and athlete originally from Iran. Barrangi’s work combines Persian calligraphy, storytelling, text, and touches of humour.
His artwork, made using handmade traditional calligraphy pens and a blend of mark-making styles, includes a variety of visual motifs that relate to a particular time or culture. When brought together, they create a unique, cross-cultural style.
Reflecting his own experience as a disabled artist and paralympian, Barrangi’s work often shows images of people with lost arms, limbs, or other disabilities. He also regularly uses images of women that he admires, including friends, family and famous artists, in his work.
The inspiration for this mural, On The Path To Happiness, comes from Barrangi’s lived experience of immigration and the welcome he received in Wakefield from organisations such as Wakefield Cathedral and The Art House.
Commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of disabled artists, with funding from Arts Council England. Additional support from The Art House, Wakefield BID, Wakefield Cathedral and Artwalk Wakefield.
